Retrouvaille
Helps Us Through the Minefield of Illusions
Michael
Nachman, Director,
Office of Family Ministry, Catholic Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin
From
an early age our heads are filled with illusions.
We learn to expect that the world and other people will conform to
our expectations, which are more often then not unrealistic.
Somewhere along the road we begin to learn that living in the real
world means shedding our illusions and accepting the realities of life and
relationships.
We often go through times of disillusionment when we question our
decisions and commitments.
We
suffer when we confront the realities involved in making relationships
work well.
No one ever told us that we needed to learn how to be married, how
to love, how to forgive, and how to manage conflict constructively.
It is all about skills!
Skills can be learned and relearned.
With enough motivation and determination joyful reality can replace
disillusionment.
We can learn that living in the real world and in real marriages is
filled with a joy that soars high above illusions and disillusionment.
Retrouvaille
helps us through the minefield of illusions.
It guides us to a new reality that is birthed out of the pain we
experience when we try to live our marriages by current cultural
expectations.
The couples involved as Retrouvaille leaders continue to make a
significant contribution to marriage by their vision and dedication.
They are helping us understand that there is hope when we are down
and discouraged, and that each of us is called to speak this hope to all
those marriages in need of healing.
Retrouvaille can help us learn to soar high once again.
